About Us

Ann ArmisteadDownsize Designs is owned and operated by Ann Armistead. She began operations in 2005, and incorporated in the state of Virginia in February, 2006. The firm is fully licensed and insured.

Since 2006, Downsize Designs has successfully managed dozens of moves – take a look at our Client References section to hear from some of our happy clients!  Ann continues to supervise everything personally, working consistently with the same movers, organizers and unpackers.  Because Downsize Designs performs so many services besides moving, we have working relationships with the best local professionals in many fields, from china repair to painters to upholsterers.

The inspiration to start a business for helping seniors in transition came to Ann when she was helping her own parents and in-laws with long-distance moves into a local retirement community.

Ann’s background is in residential interior design, and was trained by one of the nation’s premier designers. She also has past experience in bank management and with the Better Business Bureau. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 1983 (B.A., Economics), and is a Virginia native. She moved 17 times during her husband’s Navy career, and has been back in Virginia since 2002. Ann served as president (2013) of Arts Alive, a non-profit supporting arts education and scholarships for local students, and has held leadership roles in the Junior League and in local PTA organizations. She lives in Virginia Beach.
